Let’s get the ball rolling
You’re here because you want to become a voiceover artist… or you are one already, but want to increase your chances of getting more work with technique practice.
So let’s talk about getting started or building your voiceover career!!!
Firstly, sign up for the newsletter to receive monthly articles about the world of voiceover, including tips, tricks and techniques. The newsletter comes with a free download that tells you some things you may not know.
Next, have a look at the blog where all my articles about voiceover can be found.
The best place to start is with my one day Discover Voice Over Technique Workshop (DVO). This is perfect if you’ve had little or no experience or you’re already working but feel you need to know more about what’s possible in the studio. Perhaps you’re an established performer, musician or singer who wants to add ‘Voiceover Artist’ to your list of credentials. You may even have a current voice over demo that’s getting you some work but when you’re in the studio, you feel your technique is letting you down.
That’s where the Discover Voice Over Technique Workshop can really give you the edge you’ve been looking for! You’ll discover all you need to know about the industry, studios, radio stations, producers and the kind of work that’s out there. But the most valuable part of the day is the work we do with scripts. About 80% of the day is spent working through the rules and techniques for different scripts styles, so you can work out where you’d fit and what you’d be cast for. The day is an affordable $250 and available in Sydney and Melbourne. Just click this link to read more.
You may be one of the many who’ve made a voice over demo and been disappointed with the response. You may have worked in voice over for a while but are now finding work is dropping off. It may be that all you need is a Demo Assessment and Career Consultation session to find out what’s not working and why. If you’re not in Melbourne, just email me your demo and we’ll arrange a time for a phone consultation. The cost is $160 for a 90 minute session.
You might want a consultation with me, to talk about what you’d like to achieve. I offer an ‘Introduction to Voiceover’ Consultation for those who aren’t sure whether they have the skills they need and want to know about how the industry works. You can be anywhere. In Melbourne we can do it face-to-face or we can also do this over the phone. Just click on the link and send me an email.
But no matter where you live, my Audio Coaching Programs, easily downloaded from the site, will give you all the secrets to creating great reads by teaching you the fundamental rules for approaching the 4 main styles of scripts that are written for ads.
Then when you feel you just have to get into the studio, sign up for one of my regular ‘One Day Studio Intensives’. They’re structured like a real day as a voice over artist, working in a professional sound studio, with professional scripts, tailored to your voice style, type or voice personality…and you get to take the work you recorded home with you on a USB, for potential use on a voice demo, along with the coaching you received from me during the day.
So if people tell you all the time that you have a great voice…or you listen to voices on radio and television and think ‘I could do that’, the voiceovercoach might be just what you’re looking for. Maybe you’re a voiceover natural. You’ve been entertaining everyone with your cartoon voices for years and can do an uncannily accurate take-off of someone famous but don’t know how to turn that natural ability into a voiceover career. Just give me a call or send me an email.
I also do private coaching from my home studio for those of you who know what you’re doing and want to do some specific coaching.
If you’ve already done at least one of my ‘One Dayers’, have made a demo and launched yourself, or are already working as a voiceover artist, then how about this for a marketing exercise and a great way to introduce yourself to some top studios. My ‘Professional Studio Experience’ offers 9 hours of valuable studio practice and technique training at 3 different Melbourne mainstream studios, on 3 different weekday evenings. Click on the link to find out dates and studio information.
When you’ve had sufficient coaching and studio practice and feel confident that you can make a meal of any script in the style you’re most suited to, then it’s time to put together a voiceover demo and launch your career; or if you’ve been working as a voiceover artist, you may be ready to create a brilliant new demo. This is the most exciting part, but I always advise people not to go too fast at this stage. There’s no point throwing money at a demo until you’re ready. For information on the different ways I work with you on making the demo, have a look at Creating a Voiceover Demo
So, if you think being a voiceover artist is for you, have a look at the range of coaching I offer, then send me an email and I’ll be in touch.
Warmest Regards
Abbe Holmes
